Engineering Student Council Budget Overview

Introduction

The budget of the Engineering Student Council (ESC) is funded by the Student Activities Fee, paid by every undergraduate engineering student as part of the Student Life Fee. All funds received in this manner are intended for the sole purpose of facilitating and improving student life and activities on campus. The ESC Vice President, Intergroup is responsible for the supervision of the transactions of all Council accounts, including the proper distribution of funds to the governing boards, student groups, and activities. These funds are distributed among several different areas and entities:

1. The five Governing Boards on campus, which oversee, manage, and allocate funding to campus student groups.
2. The Facilities and Security Funds, which provide money to cover labor costs associated with student events on campus, excluding technical costs.
3. The four Class Councils, each representing one class year within the Engineering School, for class-specific programming.
4. Multi-school and joint-council events like Casino Night, Glass House Rocks, and the End-of-the-Year Barbecue.
5. An internal budget for the ESC, which includes a budget for co-sponsorship of student events and engineering-specific events like E-weeks, and initiatives like the ESC Partnership Network.
6. Payment for the upkeep of and furniture in student group resource spaces in Lerner Hall.
7. A contingency fund to cover any debt incurred by any student group or council.

This budget was made public as the result of discussions which began in the spring semester of 2007, and ended with an affirmative vote by the ESC in September 2007.
